今井 美恵子IMAI MIEKO

宮崎県国富町出身。6歳より書道を始める。十六歳の時、当時最年少で宮日総合美術展書道の部に入選。大学に進学し書道を専門的に学びながら、さまざまな展覧会へ出品。大学卒業後、宮崎に帰省し教員として勤務しながら書道の普及活動を行う。2015年4月、18年務めた教育現場を辞し「宮崎から書道を世界へ伝える」と言う気概を掲げ、書道家一筋として活動を始める。2015年ミラノ国際博覧会日本館にてTeamーAsaiに参加し、書道のワークショップを開催する。この事を皮切りにニューヨークでの個展・デンマーク桜祭りへの招聘、第1回アートマカオ日本館等でオープニング書道パフォーマンスを披露する。

県内では、第35回国民文化祭・みやざき2020第20回全国障がい者芸術・文化祭みやざきにて、国富町のプロデュースや芸文祭の審査員を務める。また、日南市飫肥の伝統的建造物群保存地区にて現代書道家としてインスタレーションを披露。書道のレッスンに於いても、新しい書道のシゴトを生み出すことに尽力。今井式書道でメントレ🄬や、女性管理職向けレッスン。日本初の祝詞の写典帳などを制作。

  • At the Mainichi ten (a calligraphic exhibition named Mainichi), she has been selected for prizes 11times and received a recognition of fine work award once. Member who required no pre-examination.

  • At the Sogen ten ( a calligraphic exhibition named Sogen), she has received the Special award once, the Excellent award 2 times, and was chosen for prizes 10 times.

  • At Seibu Shosakka kyokai ten (Western Japan calligrapher associations exhibition), she received the Mainichi Newspaper award and The 25th memorial award.

  • At the Mainichi Joryu ten (Mainichi Female exhibition), she received the Excellent work award.

  • At the Miyazanishi Sogo Bijutsu ten, she has been selected for prize and many more.

About

Calligraphy artist

IMAI MIEKO

Born in Kunitomi Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, she began practicing calligraphy at six. At sixteen, she became the youngest participant to win a spot in the calligraphy section of the Mainichi Joryu Exhibition.
After studying calligraphy at university, she returned to Miyazaki, working as an educator while actively promoting calligraphy. In April 2015, she left her teaching career to spread calligraphy globally.
She started by conducting calligraphy workshops at the Japan Pavilion of the Milan International Exposition in 2015. This led to solo exhibitions in New York and an invitation to the Denmark Cherry Blossom Festival.
In her home prefecture, she served as a producer for Kunisane Town and judged at cultural festivals. She also showcased contemporary calligraphy installations in Obi, Nichinan City.
In her calligraphy lessons, she creates new approaches, including mentoring in the Imai-style and specialized lessons for female managers. She’s known for producing Japan’s first Shinto prayer book.
